Play your favourite music on the ultimate online guitar app

Here at Recursive Arts we have always dreamed of giving everyone access to one of the most popular musical instruments in the world: the guitar. This dream has finally come true with Online Guitar, a beautiful and intimate instrument to express your creativity and inspire the people around you.

Our free world-class guitar simulation offers you:

  • A realistic 6-string guitar that runs natively on any modern web browser. Play notes and chords easily using your computer's keyboard/mouse and enjoy the studio-quality sound of a genuine classical guitar.

  • Two separate play modes. You can access single notes directly from the fretboard using your mouse or keyboard, or you can also activate our dedicated Chord Mode allowing you to choose from a large number of predefined chords to perform any song you like.

  • A comprehensive list of common guitar chords and the possibility to edit or create your own chords. Assign up to 10 different chords to individual keys on your computer keyboard to quickly activate your chord progressions. To play a chord you can either strum the strings all at once (Downstroke/Upstroke), or you can performe beautiful arpeggios (one note at a time) using individual input keys (S1-S6).

  • Unlimited memory slots to save your own chordsets. Each chord set contains a combination of up to 10 chords, including three optional user chords, that you can recall to play a particular song or chord progression.

  • A virtual Capo to play songs in different keys. Press keys 1 to 8 to select the fret where you would like the capo to be applied, or press ESC to remove it. All "open" strings will then raise their pitch an equal number of semitones.

Make your own Chords

Recursive Arts Online Guitar includes a fantastic selection of commonly used guitar chords for you to learn and practice on your favourite songs. But we also encourage you to create your own original chords or modify the existing ones to obtain a particular harmonic color for your guitar composition. Editing and saving new chords is really simple; just switch to "Chord Mode" and follow these steps:

  1. To select a guitar note, click on the corresponding string and fret. A small white circle will appear indicating the selected note.

  2. To select an open string note, click the string just above the sound hole.

  3. To mute a string, right click anywhere along the string. The muted string will be indicated with the X symbol.

  4. Once all notes of a user chord have been added, pick one of the three user presets available and press the "Add Current Chord" button to save it.

  5. Finally, select your preset chord from any of the 10 chord slots available and load it by pressing the assigned key.
